Marine Battery Requirements for Electronics & Livewell - Nitro NX750
Question
I have a Nitro NX750 bass boat. It has a Humminbird 4000 depth finder. I have just added a Wide128 depth finder to the bow and a Garmin GPS. I am concerned about running these items constantly plus a livewell areator on a momentary/as needed basis if a single 12 volt battery will be enough to handle the load or if I should double up on the batteries? I would hate to find out when it is time to head in that there is not enough juice left to crank the big motor.
Answer
Rick,
By far the best thing to do would be to install a second battery just for the electronics. You should never run anything off the starting battery, this battery should be used to start the motor only! The equipment battery can be charged by the motor when running through a diode isolator.
