Value of Garcia Mitchell Reel & True Temper Rod - Appraisal & Selling Tips
Question
Hi Robert!
I have a Garcia Mitchell 302 salt water reel in great shape with on a few minor flaws. It has heavy red fishing line on it and works like new. Any idea on its value? Also with the reel is a true temper model 9003, 6'5" rod with two wood handles. The rod is also in incredible shape--the wood very nice and only a few minor flaw. Could you please tell me its value and if I were to sell this should I sell them separate of leave them as one? Thank you so much for your help with this.
Suzanne
Answer
Suzanne,
The value of the reel runs from $20 to $40, with $40 being in near mint condition. Value drops quickly with wear to the reels finish, etc.
True temper rods don't generate too much collector value, but might interest a fisherman - $10-15?
There are a couple of places to sell, if you don't want to ship it you can use Craigslist for your local area. You can also set up an account and sell it on ebay thru an auction - see where the bidding takes the value - make sure you provide accurate photos.
In craiglist list it under sporting goods, in ebay list it under sporting goods>outdoor sports>fishing>vintage>reels

I would be interested in the reel, but would pay on the lower end ($25) of the value since I wouldn't be keeping it, but I would need photos first.
