antique Heddon fishing rod

Mr. Douglas,

I own a vintage Heddon fishing rod and I am having trouble locating any sort of information on this particular rod. I have no history on the rod. I measures approx. 67" in length. It has 5 eyelits and it is a one piece rod. It is 6 sided. The color of the threads along the rod are gold, red and black. There is only one marker on the rod itself in black ink, "Helene Peisch" I am not sure what this means.  The spot for the reel is stamped Heddon U.S. Patent Pend. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated as I have been searching for years now. Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Heather,

The cork handle and reel seat appear to be 1920s-1930s vintage.  A one piece rod with those colors in the Heddon lineup could be a model 250 or model 400.  It is a split bamboo (six sided) bait casting rod.  Condition (based on what I can see) is about average for these casting rods....if they have survived.

I would guess the value to be in the $75-$100 range.

Thanks,  Joe
