My dad recently passed and we came across a great lakes products inc michigan patent 2783952 and was wondering if you had any information on this or what it might be worth today.

this sounds like a Great Lakes Whirl-away rod made in 1953 in Detroit Michigan. If I am correct the reel is a large black/chrome bulb on the end of a rod.

They sell for $20 to 50 depending on condition. More if you have the original box.
