True Temper Speedlock Baitcasting Rod (1930-1950s) - Identification & Value
Question
Hello Robert,
Picked up True Temper Bait Casting Rod at a garage sale. It is the Speedlock Model. 4'-3" in length with 3 eyelits. Markings on the reel mount are : True Temper-American Fork and Hoe Co-Geneva Ohio. The rod appears to be 6 sided with markings: True Temper
on one side. American Boy 7 on another side. Are there any other
markings to be found? Are these collectible? What are they worth?
I paid a buck for it.
Thank you,
Steve
Answer
Steve
your rod dates from the 1930-50s....before fiberglass took off.
In general steel rods where the low cost alternative to hand made split bamboo rods. They were made in high volume and sold at low cost. In excellent to mint condition with the original case/bag they sell in the $20 to $30 range.
