Divine Rod Utica NY

Question
I have a Divine Rod manufactured in Utica New  Yock, it has no patent marking, only one stamp on it that says E400 or E409 Im not sure what that last number is.

I thought it was a 4 piece rod, but upon assembling it I found it to be a 3 piece rod with one extra tip piece.  Overall length assembled seems to be about 6 feet.

It has a curious tip guide, instead of an offset ring, the guide ring is in alignment and standing off the top of the tip a bit and seems to have a reddish colored bushing or lining to the guide tip.

I don't know anything about old rods, I have had this sitting around for a few years and I wonder if anybody knows anything about it, or can point me to a  source for information.

Answer
Paul,
Dean Burrill's web site , is a dedicated Devine man and great resource, I have confirmed his facts thru several books:
http://home.pacbell.net/burlltd/
But he may have shut it down

Your fly rod should be at least 7 1/2 feet  , made of bamboo and is a fly rod ( reel above handle).
If it is 6 feet, all bets are off and I need details - length of sections etc. flat sided , position of handle to reel etc

The red ceramic insert in the tip top doesn't surprise me.
But the E400 or E409 isn't anything that should be a on a Devine fly rod.

If your rod is really a 3 piece 6 foot, odds are good that the reel is above the handle and it is a spin casting rod and not very collectable.

So I lack information to help you.
If you want to try again tell me how you know it is a Devine rod , is it on a tube or cloth sack ? Markings have to be on the rod itself to count.

Books commonly found in the public library
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair

Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell

probably not in the library
Michael Sinclair in "Fishing Rods By Divine"

Homel gives the Devine baitcasting rod 6 1/2'  with an extra tip, 3 sections the  value of  $40, 85 and $175 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
But I have tried to sell bamboo spin rods  with little to no success as they are just not collected like the fly rods.

Luck,
Mac
