Fishing Practices of Indigenous Peoples: Northwest Coast vs. Plains

The Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast relied heavily on fishing for their sustenance. The region is home to an abundance of fish, including salmon, halibut, cod, and herring. These fish were caught using a variety of methods, including nets, traps, and spears. Plains

The Indigenous peoples of the Plains also relied on fishing for food, but to a lesser extent than the Northwest Coast peoples. The Plains are not as well-suited for fishing as the Northwest Coast, as the rivers and lakes are not as productive. However, the Plains peoples did catch fish using nets, traps, and spears.
