Question
I'm curious about a rod I just found in a realtive's collection.  It's an H-I which I realize means it has little value in terms of collectors etc. But I am curious to find out its age and perhaps a ballpark value. It's in stellar condition.  I doubt its ever been used! Its an H-I Mohawk Wasp No 36661/2 6 1/2 FT TIP. Any info?

Answer
Skip,

Price Book:
Antique & Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
the above 2 books can help you id and date your rod. Should be at your state library system.
But I have some guesses - Homel mentions a fiberglass spin rod at 6 1/2 foot. If your rod is round not flat and the handle is below the reel seat , then you have a fiberglass spin rod. Homel says $35 for excellent condition , you might get that. Fiberglass and spin rods are not collected like bamboo fly rods. It was made in the 1950s.
Luck,
Mac
