Crappie Rigging: Weight Placement & Size for Slip Bobbers

Question
i have an eagle claw crappie rig and want to know where to put the weight and what size when using slip bobber

Answer
Andy; When I am crappie fishing with such a rig I like to use the smallest weight possible.  I use a small split shot about 8 or so inches above the hook.  I like a slip bobber to make casting easier.  If your rig is a pole without a reel then you can place the shot about the same distance above the hook but not use a sliding bobber.
A sliding bobber may take a bit more weight than on a cane type pole because it must pull the line through the bobber.  If fishing more than 6-8 feet one needs the slip bobber and a spinning rod so your bait can reach deep enough for deep crappie.  A slip bobber is designed to allow the line to go through the bobber's center with some sort of bobber stop fixed at the depth you want the bait to go.  The bobber slips down to the split shot to allow casting but the weight then pulls the line down to the stop putting the bait at the depth desired.

I hope you catch a whole bunch of big crappie and thank you for calling for me to answer your question.
