Antique Fishing Rod Values: Identifying and Appraising Vintage Rods
Question
Hi Joe,
I have several fishing rods that belonged to my grandfather. Some are fiberglass fly rods(conolon, wright and mcgill, actionglas)and what I think are trolling rods used in the Great Lakes (Betts, Great Lakes, International?, ASW?). I suspect most are from the 50's/60's. As I have been looking at websites it appears that condition has a lot to do with value but I don't know what is common/uncommon and am trying to determine approximate values. I can send some descriptive detail and pictures.
Another rod is a fly rod that says it was custom made for The Village Sport and Hobby Shop by "al" ellis.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer
Hi Fred,
If you like, you can send details on the rods to me at joe@blackdogtackle.com and I'll try to help you sort the common from the uncommon. Pictures always help. If you can include a picture or two with each rod description it should make it easier to find information. Send the details and pictures 1 or 2 rods at a time, please.
Thanks, Joe
