Old Hardy Fly rod and reel

Question
hi i have a hardy rod it is model number 1,429,309 it also has the house of hardy sticker on it and #7,260cm and G/x  which appear to be hand painted on to it
it is a brown rod with yellowy orange whippings holding the eyes on it is in very good condition as far as i can see.

I also have a Hardy Marquis #8/9 reel it looks very old but has nothing else written on it apart from "made by hardy bros Ltd England"

i was wondering if you had any idea of an age and value of these items ?
thanks

Answer
Hi Ruaridh - On the rod - I am not sure if by "brown" you mean a brown glass or graphite rod or you mean it is a cane/bamboo rod - that will make a difference.  Given the numbering you describe it sounds like the rod dates to June of 1997 and is designed for a 7 weight line.  Give me more info on what it is made from and I can give you an idea what it is worth.  The Marquis reels were made from 1970 to 1999.  If the rod is from '97 it may follow that the reel is too.  Depending on condition I'm going to say it's worth around 100 pounds.  I hope this helps and please give me a bit more info on the rod for a decent valuation. Cheers,
Rich
