Shakespeare Wonderod FY A500 Line Weight - 1967/68 Rod Identification

Question
QUESTION: I recently received a Shakespeare Wonderod Fly Rod
I traced the rod to 1967/68 but can not identify the line weight.
The FY 500 appears to be a 7 weight but I need the weight for a
FY A500. It's the white Professional model, Kwik Taper in the 9 FT.

Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Kevin - You got the years bang on.  The Wonderod Professional FY A500 Kwik Taper 9' was produced in 67 and 68.  It is an 8-9wt rod though.  Great find - fun old glass rods.  Enjoy.

QUESTION: I just got another rod from a neighbor who passed away.
This is a South Bend "Hollow Glass" Fly Rod.

The 7 1/2 Ft Rod has Model #3620.  No line weight info but I am guessing a 5 or 6 weight.  Any idea ?

Thanks for the info on the Wonderod.

Kevin

Answer
Hi Kevin - Glad to help.  That South Bend was a sold as a 6wt. I'm sure it would cast a 5wt as well.  Very nice action on those.  In my opinion they built them with too few line guides and use really thin wire for them.  That rod could be much improved by a professional rod builder relocating the guides and ading a couple more.
