Question

Question fish
I do japanese fish painting and bought the one in the picture below at a fish market in Seattle. These people never know for sure what these commercially harvested fish are. Can you help me. The last i bought there was a silk snapper so i believe it's an Altantic or Caribbean species?

Answer
Dennis, you know this really looks like a Porgy, which is an Atlantic species. I wouldn't want to give you 100% "for sure" on it, but it's definitely in the family it seems.

At the same time, it also looks like a possible Snapper of sorts. I am thinking Porgy, though.... Let me know if you find out anything different on this.

Sorry I could not give you a definite, and I am now curious to see which it might be...
