2016/7/15 10:23:40

Question

Grouper
I caught this in the Key's, looks kind of like a tiger grouper and a black grouper also, but not exactly like either to me or anyone ive showed the pic to. Help would be great thanks

Answer
I am forwarding this picture to my FWC Officer Friend who may be able to help Identify it. I found this picture of a Grouper that seems to be the closest imnage I could find to it on a web site. I will follow up on this answer if I find more. It does however look like a CROSS of two different Grouper Species but the LARGE swatches of Color are not present which is Strange. Check out this picture and let me if you think it is close also. http://sci.odu.edu/gmsa/images/grouper1.jpg

My FWC Officer Friend Said that this is a "TRUE" Black Grouper. It is rather rare that a "True" black is caught except in the keys. This is nice fish and hopefully you got some good pictures. below is the info from the FWC Officer.

------

Rare around here...It is a "true black Grouper"  otherwise known as Carbo or carbeureta.  Usually when someone says they caught black grouper, it is realy a gag but this photograph is a true black
