Question
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question.

Im just worried about my boyfriend, he has been in the PGA IGI for 2 and a
half years, he is dedicated, he absolutely loves the sport , and i know i'm his
girlfriend but honestly he is talented. but the problem is that this year was the
end of his PGA IGI student thing..... sorry im not sure what it is called, but
then he applied to become a professional, and they rejected him, he is
absolutely guttered and crushed that he did not get in, so what can he do and
what can i do as  girlfriend to help him, im just so worried about him, he is
not him self anymore.
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hello Emily:  Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the IGI training program there in Australia and cannot speculate why your boyfriend would be turned down for a position once he completed his studies.  Here in the States, there are many different types of golf operations, each requiring specific talents and in some cases, prior experience.  He may have applied for a job he is not qualified for with his current training.  I would suggest that he look at other courses or perhaps take a position below what he's been trained for just to get his foot in the door.  Here it is common for courses to promote from within as those who rise through the organization already are familiar with the nature of the business.  The important thing for him is to get hired by a course doing whatever it takes, picking the range, working the carts, rangering and then to prove himself as someone who would be more valuable to the company doing more than he was hired to do.

Tell him not to give up as jobs may be scarce there too like they are here.  The economy has taken the wind out of all industry and jobs are not plentiful anywhere.

Best of luck to you and I commend you for your support of his goals.

John
