want some advice

Question
Hi Eddie
I'm a single handicapper golfer. I wanna become a professional golf training coach. Is there any school, college or something.

Answer
Hi Tristan:

Not that I know of.  Sadly as it sounds, there is no certification process needed.  The PGA of America offers a 3-5 year program in which teaching is a part of.  Becoming a PGA Member like myself gives me a PGA Card acknowledging me as a member of the association.  There a few companies that say they offer certification to become a teacher, but I'd save your money.  What I would do if I were you is get hooked up with a David Leadbetter Academy or Jim McLean Academy or a Hank Haney Academy.  I know those Academies teach you and certify you to be a teacher within their system.  Then, after you have earned your way up, you could then take over the lead position instructor and command a nice lesson fee.  Also, becoming a PGA Member is a good process to go through as it prepares you to run your own facility down the road.  Check out whichever one interests you, do some digging and you'll find what you are looking for.  But is there a school, or college or program that is specifically targeted to certify all instructors?  NO, but there should be.  Good luck.
