Question
I currently have a 460cc but not sure on loft.  I am just starting to golf and have trouble getting straight balls with my driver.  They want to go to the right badly!  I am great with 7 iron and fair with my hybrids - they seem to go straighter for me.  I am fairly consistent at 100 yards distance with driver and 75-100 yards with the hybrids.  I think I am not getting the face of my driver turned quick enough as I have a slow swing.  Should I try a 400cc driver?  I am 5'3" and do have the petite length clubs, but my petite driver still seems too long for me.

Answer
Jody,

Two things outside the swing cause the face to remain open at impact. This assumes your swing does not have a major flaw. The fact that the shorter clubs work better tell me that this is not the case.

Item#1 the length of the driver is probably the reason the club face is open at impact. try choking down and measure the performance. The driver is typically to long and to strong in flex for most every golfer, This is quite possibly the reason for the slice/push.

Item #2 the flex is probably to strong. The myth is that you might be too strong and leaving the club face open. Quite the opposite happens. The club face remains open because there is not enough force to make the shaft react and close.

Try this, go to local golf store and get the longest US KIDS tour series driver and try it. The loft will be good for you swing speed, the flex and length might be just right.

If you need anything please let me know
