not getting solid contact w/irons,

Question
Overall, my irons are VERY inconsistent, especially my 7+6 irons (lowest irons in my bag, then i have some hybrids). Sometimes I hit it good, then the next I tend to chunk it.

Also, I am hitting the ball on the upswing. It is not getting full compression and contact... what can I do to help fix this?

Answer
Jeff:
Put a tee out in front of your ball about 3 inches directly on your target line and push it into the ground about half way.  You should be able to hit the ball and the tee on your follow through.  If you are swinging up at the ball, you'll never hit the tee.  Also, as you swing through the ball, you need to have your clubhead move as low to the ground as possible for about a foot past the ball.  You need a much more downward (steeper) angle of attack than you are getting.  When you try to swing up on the ball, the clubhead is very shallow as it approaches the ball so it's real likely you would hit behind the ball or scull it ot top it.  So redo your thinking, get a different picture in your mind about how the club should be moving at and past the ball, and go practice.  You'll start compressing it better in no time.
