Practice putt

Question
In a PGA tour stroke-play event can a pro having just missed a makeable putt and then tapped in, practice the putt that he missed on the green before leaving the hole. Under rule 7-2 it seems OK. However, I ask the question as I have never seen a tour pro do this, other than in a Match-play event. Is there a rule for the tour that prevents this?

Answer
Dear Neville, thanks for the question.  Yes there is a PGA Tour rule not allowing putting practice except in Match Play.  While the PGA Tour, by and large, does follow the USGA rule book, they do reserve the rights to govern their events as they will.  Strangely enough, for the USGA events such as the US Open, players are required to follow the PGA Tour rules with regard to practice, just to stay consistent with the tournaments they play all year.  Thanks again for the question, good luck and remember...
