British Open

Question
The British Open once followed the Masters as the second major.

In what year was the British Open changed to a July event?

Thanks

Answer
Dear Bob, thanks for the question...after consulting a friend at the USGA he responded with the following:  Let me know if you have any further questions regarding his response...Good luck and remember...love the game,
Skip

While it is true that the order of the four majors has changed on several occasions, it is also true that the British Open has never been second to the Masters in the order - not in the way it is phased here.  Since the Masters was first played in 1934, the US Open has always been played before the British Open.  What has shifted around quite a bit in the order is the PGA - there has even been a time when the PGA was first (in February!).    To find a year when the British Open preceded the US Open, we have to go back to 1932 - when the Masters didn't yet exist!
