Question
Hi

ive just joined the adult swim squad at my aquatic centre, i notices today that mu speedo swim briefs were getting to big as ive lost a fair bit of weight, so i went to the speedo shop and asked tge lady that works there what is the ideal brief for me to train in, she told me the onea with the really short waists, ie the 2.5cm side briefs so me not knowing much about the aerodynamics of swim suits bought them, so my question is, is it better to train with speedo briefs with short waists or the longer waists say the 5cm or 8cm briefs, also i have a fair bit of hair on my boddy buy i have a good body, i feel like the hair is causing a lot of drag in the water so in your professional opinion should i remove this body hair or should i leave it be or should i trim it?

Sorry about the long question
looking forward to ur reply

Cheers
Moe

Answer
Moe--
Let's start with the hair issue,  Competitive swimmers let their hair grow throughout the main part of their training during the season.  At major competitions, though, they shave the hair off, this gives the feeling of being smoother, therefore more aerodynamic and faster.  Drag when training is a good thing, unless you are uncomfortable with your hairiness.
As for the speedo, again it doesn't matter, whatever you are comfortable with for training, big and baggy is not a bad thing to train in, if you compete a smaller suit is advisable.
