diving ear protection

Question
My son is on high school dive team and just got dealt a bad deal that he is upset about.  Sectionals are coming and he has been diagnosed with a double ear infection and doc is saying that he cant dive.  He has a few weeks and maybe with the combination of meds and staying out water will allow him to dive.  My question is whether or not you know of any ear protection that will work when diving?  We realize it is probably a long shot but just thought we would ask.  Thanks for all your help!  Joe Irak

Answer
Sorry there really isn't any ear protection I know of that is safe for diving. With any earplug you're taking the chance of forcing the plug into the ear canal which can aggravate the infection and at the worst break your sons eardrum.  With any luck if he takes the 7 to 10 days of antibiotics he should still have time to do well at sectionals.  Keep stretching and doing any dryland routine he does with the team so he can stay in condition.  Visualization is also helpful.
Good Luck
George
