swimmers body

Question
Hi Kate

I noticed that swimmers' body are very lean, slim and yet not bulky. Do they do weights or is it due to the training in the pool?

Thank you. Your reply is very much appreciated.

Sincerely

Eddie

Answer
Hello Eddie,

Quite the contrary the best swimmers are those with strong muscles and a little chunk to help them float. The leaner the muscle mass the quicker swimmers sink. My guess is the people that you are seeing are doing significant cross training. Weights tend to add bulk. I have always been a fast swimmer and in college weighed in at 5' 3" at about 145 and I was very competitive. I did cross train in the fall by playing varsity soccer.

I hope this helps to answer your question.
