Pool clarity

Question
Hi Tim,
I am having trouble getting my Pool to clear up. I just don't know what else to put in it to help clear it up. Can you help? I hope so. Thank you so very much for your time.

Answer
Hi Betty,
Lack of pool clarity can usually depend on a couple different things. The first thing you need to do is make sure you water is balanced. For this I would recommend taking a water sample into a local pool store, or using a kit that tests chlorine/bromine, pH, and total alkalinity (total alkalinity must be balanced before pH and Cl/Br). If you have just recently killed algae, the white in the water is the dead, bleached out algae. For this you would use a water clairifier that takes all the small particles your filter is not grabbing and bunches them up. If your water is balanced, try that. If that doesnt work you can try a product called alum which takes all the particles in the water and drops them to the bottom. The only problem with that method is you have to clean up the remainds. So I would say make sure your water is balanced, if the chlorine is too low super shock the water (super shock = add one extra pound of shock than normal). If the water is still cloudy after the super shock use a water clairifier (Ultra Bright or whatever). Hope everything works out.
