The elusive trout has converted many people around the world into fishing enthusiasts. The whole challenge of catching the prized trophy trout is so intriguing that it hooks people into the game relentlessly. Trout, although the most commonly found fish in the world, is not easy to catch.

Trout inhabits both fresh water as well as salty water. But their lazy nature is what makes them very difficult to catch. While other types of fish would be lured to the surface with carefully crafted bait, it takes a lot more than the trout fish. Trout can be easily found in rivers with a nice flowing stream because it provides them food without having to move much. Remember, they are lazy!

Therefore, if you plan to go river trout fishing, it is important to keep a few points in mind, making trout fishing a lot easier and a lot more fun. While trout fishing in rivers, the first basic rule to keep in mind is always to use live baits.

This is a secret passed down to every generation by revered fisherman and sporting enthusiasts. A trout would never be lured into accepting fake bait, because it is a lazy fish. It would have to be lured with real meat in order to make it come to the surface. Most of the times, it can decipher a fake bait from a genuine one. In short, feather fishing would do you no good when trout fishing in rivers.

Talking of bait, the best bait to use for trout is earthworms. An earthworm flowing naturally with a river stream makes for a fantastic lure for the trout. To make your earthworm bait more effective than usual, it is a very good idea to use gang hooks.

Gang hooks, as the name suggests, are nothing but a number of small hooks tied together. Attach these hooks to the line with the help of a barrel swivel to prevent twisting of line. You could always ad weight to your rig using short sinkers. Employing such a bait method allows for natural earthworm movement which is sure to catch the attention of the trout.

Keep in mind while trout fishing not to scare the fish away. A trout, although an intelligent species, can only process one thought at a time. If you scare the fish away by any chance, it would forget about the food and make a run for its life. A scared, running fish is not always easy to catch, is it?

Also, when fishing for trout in rivers, keep the weather conditions in mind. If it is windy, it is always wise to use roll casting as it is the best way to catch the trout. Apart from roll casting, you could also use fake casting to attract this amazing fish. A false cast is casting your line without allowing it to touch water and then recasting again quickly to change the cast direction.
