You will find some valuable advice here on how to be a better angler and therefore get greater satisfaction from your fishing days.

Grubs are usually a good bait to use. While there are a variety of baits on the market, grubs should be a staple of your bait choices. It is easy to get grubs, so they make a great back up bait.

If you are searching for big fish, use larger bait. Large bait may cost more, but you may catch a bigger fish. Larger fish are naturally attracted larger sized bait.

Refine your baiting technique so that your bait doesn't fall off the hook. When using worms or other live bait, it's especially important to bait your hook carefully. Try using a lengthwise motion when threading the hook through the worm. You will prevent the worm from slipping from the hook.

Fish are more likely to notice your lure.

Staying near the rocks can help you catch small-mouth bass. In early spring they gravitate towards shallower waters; this is because they like warmer areas.

If you are planning a fishing trip out at sea, be sure to carry along some motion-sickness medication. It will certainly put a damper on the day if you get nauseous and still have hours to go on the boat. Make sure to bring along motion-sickness remedies, such as Bonine or Dramamine-brand motion-sickness tablets or acupressure wrist bands so that you can enjoy your outing fully.

When you are prepping your fish to cook, you need to remove the scales. You could use a big spoon or buy a fish scaler. Hold the dead fish on one side by its head and slowly scrape the scales off its body. It is important to be patient. It can be a long process, even more so with thin-scaled types of fish.

As you stock your tackle box and boat for a fishing trip, you must include all necessary tools and gear. Depending on what kind of fish you are catching, you will want to use certain lures and bait. Knowing the details of your situation is essential to your success.

If you are fishing during the winter, you should consider using sinkers. The sinker will bring the line lower down in the warm water where most of the fish will be during the colder seasons. When using sinkers, their weight and quantity will depend upon the depth that you would like your bait at.

Always remember to wet your line prior to tying on a knot. A wet line means less opposing friction as you are tying the knots. The best types of knots to use are clinch and double fisherman's knots.

You should vary your bait colors if using artificial bait. This tip is most helpful if you've been waiting for awhile and have not received a bite. Sometimes unusually bright bait makes fish curious enough to try it. Even a shade which is new to them can do the trick.

Always make sure that all fishing hooks are sharp. No matter how great your fishing skills are, a dull hook is a sure way to lose fish. Either sharpen your hooks as you go, or carry replacement hooks and switch them out regularly.
