Three simple questions

Question
We play CYO 5th grade.  Opposing team scored with 0.1 seconds on the clock on an out of bounds play.  This shouldn't be enough time to score from a dead ball unless tapped in at the rim.  It was a shot - does a rule exist in CYO basketball?

We lost a game against a team with the fastest point guard i've seen - when defense should we run?  Lastly, is there a good press break at this level?  Or is it just a matter of getting the ball up court quickly?

Thanks much.

Answer
HI Gary,

Technically with .1 seconds you cannot catch and shoot, so the basket should have been waived off. However, this is not the NBA and we don't have instant replay. Rules for Youth basketball usually follow the High School Rule book. And then each individual youth league can add/change or alter their own rules specifically for their league and depending on which age group. I"m not the best person to ask for drills or coaching strategies. I'm just an official. I haven't seen many press break strategies at the 5th grade level, but they are out there.
