Only you can aswer whether you should play football.  If you have the desire to play then you should try out for your school's team.  Draw on the support of your Grandfather.  Many high school players wear pads for the first time and play football for the first time when they try out for their school's team.  You are in great company.  As for getting a scholarship, this is very  competitive.  I tell student athletes and parents all the time if they want to try to get a scholarship they need to have good grades.  There are lots of options and opportunities for student athletes who have good GPAs and good SAT scores. Schools want student athletes not just an athlete.
