WR or FS

Question
QUESTION: I am a sophomore in high school and play wide receiver. I absolutely love playing my primary position. But i am really interested in playing free safety. I am 5'8, 125lbs, and my 40 is 4.78, and I have really good hands.I know i can only play one primary position. Should i switch to FS, or stay as WR. What are some tips i could learn to get the fundamentals of a Free Safety. If someone can answer my question i would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Aaron

ANSWER: Dear Aaron Garcia,
Why not play both? Take a look at this web link.

QUESTION: Mr. Louis,

I was wondering if you can give me some drills I can practice to become a better free safety.
Thank you very much,

Aaron

Answer
Dear Aaron Garcia,
The safety's job is to backup the corner-back by being there when needed. The best way to do this is to study the game films, learn to read offensive formations, down, distance, and the combination routes. When you learn to do this everything else will come easy. The foot work will come from playing basketball and handball. You do not want to be thinking about what foot to step with and have the receiver run right pass you while you are thinking about it. You want everything to come naturally.

I am sorry to say that if you want to be a safety you are going to have to do your homework. And it all starts in the film room. It is not that hard give it a try.

Your friend, Louis
