reaction slow at times

Question
QUESTION: I have been doing some speed and agility drills with my boys to get them ready for the up and coming football season. My 11year old son wants to play running back and Linebacker, but his first step reaction is slow a times. He just finished up with track season and a friend of mine who is a track coach was saying that he could possibly be burnt out, and in need of some rest. But I had him working out with a speed and agility coach one evening, and he felt that he was just being lazy. He has a BIG problem focusing in all areas of his life,in school, sports, and at home. I feel that its him just not being attentive at times.

So my question is, could he be burnt out? Or could it just be a lack of focus? And what are some reaction drills that I can do with him to solve this problem?

ANSWER: #1....Don't be a dad that "pushes" him through you re-playing the game......I made that mistake & almost ruined my son's love of sports & the game a few years back.  It's June, it's summer, it's hot...It's vacation time.....It's his time, give it to him.

Let him relax for a few days or even 1-2 weeks...If he wishes to work out, he will tell you.  Another area that probably needs attention is his nutrition.....He may not be getting the right types & amounts of carbs, protein, & energy that he needs to sustain his current body metabolism.  Check w/ a local dietitian for consultation like a juco, college, or a local hospital.  I have never seen anyone not be willing to assist you if you ask.....

Good luck....Thanks for the question.....Andy

QUESTION: Coach,

Thanks for the info first of all...But I'm not trying to re-play my football career through my child. For the most part I will asked them if they want to do drills if they say no, I don't force them. I take my kids to the pool, they play video games two to three HOURS a day, I let them play outside with their friends, and we only do drills two, MAYBE three times a week.

While we are doing the speed and agility drills, I try to make it fun for them, I PRAISE them for doing their best and it puts a smile on their faces. So again coach if you have any drills that I can do for him that will improve his reaction, that would help. And is there a web site that I could go to that would assist me in looking for a high carb diet? Thanks coach

Answer
The best I that I personally use is www.P90X.com  Many high school & college teams use it for developing great cardio, strength, & toning....Great buys on eBay......Tremendous & very detailed nutritional program.....

I guess you didn't like my honest answers, therefore the low rating, but that's your opinion....Most questioners do not want sugar coating.....I am a straight, look you in the eye man.

Good luck.....Andy
