Speed Training

Question
Dear Mr. Barnes,

Football off-season is here! I played varsity as a sophomore and I am a projected starter at Middle Linebacker my junior year. I was talking to my coach and he expects alot from his linebackers this year and after some thinking, I decided to step it up with the weight and speed training. You could classify my speed as: average. I need to get faster though so that I can take it to the next level. I was wondering if you could help me by giving me some exercises/drills so that I bring down my 40 time/overall speed.

                                    Thanks, Adolio Garcia

Answer
Great question Adolio.  Some of the best things you can do for speed is plyometric exercises and jump roping.  Do you squat?  This helps build your hamstrings and glutes.  If you need more detailed info, let me know.  Coach B.
