Strikezone

Question
Hello,  We had a 11 and under ASA fastpitch game tonight and some of the balls that were being called a strike were bouncing on home plate on their way in from the pitcher.  The umpire argued that the girls were standing way up in the box so the ball did not have to clear the plate to be called a strike.  I always though that the ball had to pass over homeplate to be a called strike. What is the actual ASA strike zone for this situation?

Answer
HI Lon.

ASA 7-5-a fp. A BALL IS CALLED BY THE UMPIRE.
A. (Fast Pitch) For each legally pitched ball that does not enter the strike zone,
touches the ground before reaching home plate, or touches home plate, and
the batter does not swing.

So as you can see by rule any pitched ball that hits hp cannot be a strike unless it is swung at.
