Identifying Your Vintage H-I Mohawk Fiberglass Fishing Rod

Question
I have a rod that I believe to be fiberglass. It measures out to 63" over length and is one piece. The sticker on it has a Indian Chief. Behind the Indian head is the letters H-L in red with a white background. Below and behind that is the word Mohawk. their are also the hand scratch # 706-3. It has a wood turned handle with groves below the reel and a wood turned teardrop above the reel.
I you could me any information on this rod, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Tom

Answer
Tom,
If it is HL don't know, HI then it is made by Horrocks - Ibbotson. They made a fiberglass fly rod model Mohawk.

But I am not a fiberglass guy - just bamboo fly rods

Casting rods rarely get any history or collectors interest , same with fiberglass and strike three if your rod was made by HI it is a low quality / priced rod.

Price Book:
Antique & Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

Homel gives the HI  model "Mohawk" #1423 fiberglass spinning rod 6 1/2' the  value of  $5, 13 and $35 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.

Don't blame the messenger it might be a great fishing tool but you will probably not resale it for anything.

I have no specific history or books on fiberglass, I believe they don't exist, but here's two web sites that on fiberglass:
http://fiberglass-fly-rods.pbwiki.com/
http://www.fiberglassflyrodders.info/

Luck,
Mac
