Vintage Sakura Fishing Set (Mid-1950s) - Value & History
Question
MY FATHER WAS IN JAPAN 1953 AND PICKED UP A SAKURA FISHING SET
#1068-21, P.O. 01-H-6-4212, ART CRAFT CO. IT IS IN A WOODEN CASE WITH SMALL LURES AND "FISHING GUT" AND BRAIDED LINE. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE VALUE. SHOULD WE HAVE RESTORATION DONE ON MINOR PROBLEMS ON CASE AND ROD THANK YOU
Answer
Dannie,
after WWII, occupied Japan began making split bamboo fly rods. In there day, they were low cost bamboo rods. Collectors main interest is in American and British fly rods, particularly custom made rods.
Your rod is $20-30 in the condition you stated, it would not be worth restoring (restored value would be $40-50).
