Heddon Pal Mark III Musky Special 6273-5: Production Date & Material Identification
Question
Hi Joe!
I recently acquired an heirloom Musky rod: A Brand-New / Unused Heddon Pal Mark III Musky Special 6273-5'. It is in it's original tube and has the original plastic wrap / Heddon Sticker on the handle (Marked $24.95). It's Perfect. I was wondering two things, hopefully you know.
1) When was this rod produced, and
2) Is it Fiberglas or Bamboo?
It is a round shaft, but is bamboo color and has what looks to be grain, unlike any fiberglas rod I've seen.
Thanks in Advance!
Michael
Answer
Hi Michael,
This rod is fiberglass painted in what was called the faux bamboo colors to make it appear made of bamboo. It was produced in the late 1960s or the 1970s. In Mint condition the rod would be valued in the $30-$40 range.
Thanks, Joe
