Identifying & Valuing Vintage Montague & Premiere Bamboo Fly Rods

Question
I have two montague 5/6 and one premiere 3/4 bamboo vintage fly rods.  most likely 50's or earlier-how can you tell?  do you have any idea what they might be worth.  thx, charles www.chasactingschool.com/

Answer
Hi Charles,

The Montague likely has a decal with a model name on it...unless it has been worn off over time or removed during a refinish of the rod. Any additional information you can provide will help narrow down the possible rod models.  How long is it? How many sections?  Do you have both tip sections?  Are there any other markings or writing on the rod or metal components?

Same questions on the Premiere rod.  There are several makers that used the Premiere model name.  We need to narrow it down a bit.

Most vintage bamboo fly rods were made before the mid-1950s, some as early as the 1880s are still around in fair numbers.

If you can send photos of the rods to joe@blackdogtackle.com I will review them for you.

Thanks, Joe
