Spring

Question
hi, I am on vacation and it's the middle of summer, the worst time to fish. there are a bunch of private lakes behind where i'm staying, and a spring. I saw people feeding the fish bread, and when I looked in, I saw huge carp, bass, and some bluegill that r huge. They wouldn't bite any of my lures, so I tried bread, and caught some huge bluegill. Then I went to the store and got a tiny K&E bass stopper lure and caught a few bass about 15 inches long. Do u have any suggestions on what else 2 use?

P.S. The fish stay at the bottom all day, and in the evening come up to feed.

Thanks!!!.

Answer
Hi Gavin,

In ponds like that where the bass are very wary, sometimes live bait is the only thing that will fool them.  Big golden shiners can be deadly for them.  Or, catch a small bluegill and use it for bait (if legal where you are).  The other option is fishing before first light or after dark.  It is very likely that these fish feed at night and lay low all day.

Good luck,

Marc
