Orvis Battenkill Fly Rod Valuation & Restoration History - 1955

Question

Orvis Battenkill Fly R
I have a 1955 orvis battenkill impregnated 7.5 Serial # 17042 with the original rod tube and sock. I have the two tips. the rod was built by Calvin Skinner and George Reid the rod was finished March 16 1955 and sold March 30 1955. this rod was restored by orvis in early 2000. it is in perfect shape. What would be the value of this rod ? I'm thinking of having you sell it for me, Thanks Tom

Answer
Thomas,
How do you know "the rod was built by Calvin Skinner and George Reid the rod was finished March 16 1955 and sold March 30 1955"? I can't find your serial number in the Orvis database that is on the Internet. I am guessing Orvis gave you this information , right ?

Value: (depends heavily on condition) Price book: Antique & Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book. Homel gives the Orvis 7/1'  model "Battenkill" fly rod  with an extra tip the  values below for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
         P       G       E
2 piece   150   300   550
3 piece 150   325   595

I don't do condition without seeing the rod. I  do estimates for free except for return shipping . e-mail me id you like macsrods@yahoo.com

But if in the condition you described we might get $700 for it.

Luck,
Mac
