Older Fenwick

Question
QUESTION: Hi there-

We have an older Fenwick 2pc rod that appears to be a custom model it has fenwick in hand script without the emblem we have come to expect along with 235 under is painted 7' 5oz, but does not have anyother info.  The container we purchased it in states that it is from Fenwick in Long Beach and that replacements are $4.oo a pc.  We would love to know how old this might be and if it is of value as my husband uses it at times.

Thank you

ANSWER: Hi Kaiti,

Is this a fly rod, casting rod or a spinning rod?  I don't find that model number listed in my reference materials, but I don't have a listing of everything Fenwick made.  Also, what color is the blank?

What is your opinion as to the condition of the rod?

It sounds like it may be a fly rod.  If so, it may be an early one in the Fenwick lineup.

If you can provide some added information, I may be able to dig a little more.

Thanks,  Joe

QUESTION: Thank you Joe,

My husband believed that this was possibly a fly/spinner combo I think that this was because of the 5oz weight stated on the pole.  THe blank is a copper or rust color and has copper(over aluminum?) accents(ferrul and reel seat) with a cork handle.  All of the windings are also copper colored and appear to be original.  The pole has been used the handle is discolored but it is completely intact.  I do believe that it is original and good condition.

Thank you for your time,

Kaiti

Answer
Hi Kaiti,

Here is a link to some information on older Fenwicks...

With the aluminum ferrules, my guess is this is one of the early rods (1955-1962) and you might want to post a brief description of your model 235 on that site.

As to value, I really don't know but would guess this rod in good condition would be in the $40-$75 range, perhaps a bit more.  If it is a really rare model (and I don't know if it is) it could have greater collector value.

Thanks,  Joe
