Best Bait for Alligator Gar: Live Shad & Effective Techniques

Looks like you came to the right place Santiago!  I fish for catan all the time.  The alligator gar really likes his food alive and kickin'.  A little trick I use is I will catch a bunch of shad. Then I keep the 7-10 inchers alive as bait and all the others I leave out of the water for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes and tthrow them into the water at my fishing spot.  This leaves all those shad confused and disoriented which atracts the gar.  I like to use a 3/0 to 5/0 circle or octopus hook on my bait shad.  And then I put them under a large bobber.  When the bobber starts trying to get away really fast or if it stops moving you probably have something.  But don't confuse that with the normal swimming of the shad.
