Identifying and Appraising a Vintage Cane Fishing Rod - Sheepshead Mark
Question
I have a cane casting rod that belonged to my late husband, who drowned while fly fishing. Am finally able to go through his fishing tackle and I have one rod I cannot identify. It is a one piece wood (cane, bamboo???) that is 76 inches long, is in one piece, and has a red rubber grip at the handle. There are no markings on it except the word "Sheepshead" in script on the rod. I would like to identify the rod and its value. It may have been my grandfather's rod, I am just not sure. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as this is a hard task for me to complete.
I cannot figure out how to attach the pictures of the rod so will have to e mail them to you.
Answer
Hi Diane,
I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. I do understand how difficult it is to go through this process and perform this task. I would be happy to lend any assistance I am able to for you.
This sounds like an older boat rod for saltwater fishing. To be more specific I probably do need to see the pictures. email them to joe@blackdogtackle.ocm and I will review them.
Thanks, Joe
