Heddon #900 Musky Special: History, Value & Manufacturing

Question
My dad inherited a vintage Heddon fishing rod and would like to know more about it.  The rod is a 5 ft. split bamboo musky special.  This never-been-used rod is stored in the original cloth bag and screwtop metal tube.  When were these rods manufactured and do they have collectible value?

Answer
Ron,
Your rod was made in Dowagiac (pronounce this DOE-W AH'-JACK#, Michigan. I am assuming it is bamboo, flat not round sided.

Price book:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 #2nd edition 2000# add about 30% for age of book

Homel gives the 5 1/2'  model 900 light trolling rod  without an   extra tip, 2 sections a value of  $20, 55 and $95 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. It's not exactly your model but  my experience has been that it is close enough to say plus or minus $10.

Luck,
Mac
