Vintage Wright & McGill Trailmaster Fly Rod - 1963 - Excellent Condition
Question
Howdy, I found a brand new WM Trailmaster fly rod in my garage. I intend to sell it since it is far too old to use without risk of destruction. It is in the aluminum case, has the cloth bag, the cork is clean and shows no wear, still has the original WM tag attached to the second segment with $26.95 price. The metal ferrules have a bit of green corrosion but only on the outside so they would go together just fine. There is a '63 right under the Eagle emblem. The year of manufacture perhaps? The reel perch has Pat, April 12, 1939 and says Wright & McGill Rod CO, Denver, CO. The finish is crazed but not dusty or opaque on the fiberglass sections. Any idea what something like this would be worth.
Answer
Hi Kris,
Too Old? This type of rod is used every day where I live. If it has been kept in its storage tube and treated decently, it should fish just fine and have lots of life left in it. Depending on actual condition the rod should be in the $30-$80 range.
