Where to start for musky?

Question
Hello Joe, my name is Bob Iveson and i have recently become interested in catching a trophy musky. I live in Northeast PA and we have a river that has been known to give up some musky on occasion.  My question, is where should i start looking to cast for musky? What type of formations/current should i be looking for in order to land that big bad musky? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
Bob,

The first place I would try would be the pool below the dam if there is one, especially early in the spring. In the summer the deeper pools would be a good place to start. Don't be affraid to try the shallow runs as well. The key is to establish a pattern. It may even pay to try night fishing.

I would try a floating lure, so if it gets snagged it could float off.

I would also like to add, PLEASE practice Catch & Release, these fish are way to precious to only catch once. Be sure to know as much about the proper handling of musky and equipment needed before even the first try at catching one.

Hook Em' Hard,
Joe
