Plaster molds

Question
I recently read an article on Esox Hunter that was written by you about making a 2 piece plaster mold. My question is where and how do you put the vent hole in it. I seem to keep getting air bubbles in the top half of my baits. Thanks for the great article

Answer
Hi Galen,

Its hard to say where to put a vent hole since it depends on the shape of the bait.  Look at the highest point of the bait when you are pouring.  Or just pour on an angle.  If you need a vent, just make a small slice in one face with a hacksaw blade.  You don't need very much.  Also make sure you aren't overheating the plastic.  It gets a lot of extra air in it if it gets too hot.  Try some of these ideas and see if that helps.  Oh, one other thing.  Make sure that the POP mold is sealed well with epoxy.  Open areas in the plaster will cause bubbles every time.

Good luck,

Marc
