Wrist Support

Question
I have what could only be defined as an arthritic wrist and right thumb. The pain at ball impact prevents me from finishing the shot. I have tried a wrist support and find I can at least make a decent shot without pain. I have used this throughout the round. Is this a violation on any USGA rules.

Answer
Hi Mike,

Braces of this type are generally not permitted under Rule 14-3. However, personal handicap items designed to be used for a specific handicap or ailment, are considered and ruled on individually and requests of this nature should be submitted in writing to the Technical Department of the USGA.

Or, you could submit your situation to the local rules committee of any tournment you're wanting to play in.

If the brace enables you to play and enjoy the game, continue to do so in your normal play. I can't see why any of your playing partners would object.

Hope this helps.
