Golf Rules: Determining the 'Away' Player - Distance Matters
Question
I am off the green behind a bunker but closer than someone on the green. Who is away? Similar situation but putting from the froghair. Who is away? Would it make a difference if the pin is pulled versus not?
Answer
Les,
Sorry for the delay. The answer to your question is the person who is furthest from the hole is considered away. Irregardless as to where on the course the golfers are located.
Typically in a friendly game you may have someone in the bunker closer than someone on the green. In this case you would usually allow all players to hit up to the green before anyone starts to putt.
Thank you,
