ski boot smell

2016/7/22 11:06:10

Question
Any trick to cleaning the liner, inserts, inner boot... call them what you will , on ski boots?

Answer
Sorry for not replying earlier. I am a semi full time ski coach as well as a sales managers for a large sports retailer and my time has been limited this season.

No tricks other than you can get the same products that are used for decontaminating hockey equipment bags (one of the foulest odours known to man or beast). I do not think that liners can be washed as this will deteriorate the glue bonds in them and potentially damage the materials.

If you are able to get rid of the smell I suggest that you take the following preventative steps:

1) Wear two pairs of socks per day (one in the A.M. and one in the afternoon). Make sure these are a modern synthetic ski sock that wicks moisture away from the foot and helps distribute it out of the boot top.
2) Use some form of anti-bacterial foot powder in the sock to help absorb any excess sweat (not too much)
3) Immediately dry your boots with a gentle air flow such as that provided by the modern boot dryers or a hotel wall hair dryer on its lowest setting. heat isn't really necessary you want to distribute air into the farthest reaches of the boot.

If nothing works its time for new boots or at the very least a new liner. Good luck
