Question
hi George
Many thanks for the help with my youngest. My eldest likes her freestyle. I'm wondering if you could comment on her technique and turns. I'm wondering if she she should put her hand in sooner and push it under the water than reaching and placing at full stretch. I'm also wondering about how to turn quicker. Any views /advice about the clip would be great!

Answer
Hello again and you're welcome.  I've watched the video and did see a few things to work on.  The first and probably the easiest, your daughter swam the whole race in a circle, just like she probably does in practice.  She needs to either stay in the middle or pick a side and stay there, if someone is about a half a body length ahead of her, she can get a draft from her by swimming on that side, this will actually help save energy and enable her to swim faster.
As for her stroke, it looks fine to me, the only part that meeds a little attention is the first part of the pull.  She is keeping her arm a little too straight at the catch phase(right at the start of her pull), she should try to keep her hand pulling down a little less with a little more elbow bend to put more pressure on her hand/forearm during the pull.
She is starting her turn a little late, which is putting her to close to the wall.  She is also taking too much time turning onto her stomach before she pushes off.  It's faster if she starts pushing off while she is on her back and than turns to her side as she streamlines past the flags.  The other issue is that she breathes on her first stroke after the turn, it would be better if she takes one stroke  before she breathes.  If she does the streamline off the wall properly, the first pull should be with the arm closest to the bottom of the pool, to keep the speed up from the push off the wall and then take a breath with the second pull.  The last thing on the turn is to be more aggressive with the dolphin kicks off the wall.  It looks like it's too relaxed.
The next time she swims the 200, have her pace it out different.  Swim the first 50 smoothe and relaxed, then do a build up on the last three 50's so she is able to sprint the final 25 with whatever she has left.
Thanks again for the videos, they are a treat and a big help,
Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know.
George
