Question
When on top of the water what is the best stroke to get to the bottom of a pool, 6-12 feet deep.  I'm pretty boyant.  My condo pool is 10 feet outside my door.  I fear someday I'm gonna hear a scream that someone is drowning and I want to be able to help in an easy calm matter.  Thanks in advance.
Darren

Answer
Darren--
As much as that is a very gallant thought, the best thing to do is make sure there is a pole near the pool that would be long enough to reach someone in the pool.  It is unadvisable for someone, unless they are trained to be a lifeguard, to try to save a drowning victim.  Studies have proven that if an untrained person attempts to save some one who is struggling, you end up with 2 drowning victims instead of just one.  If the situation arises, use a life bouy or pole or get the person to relax and float to the shallow end or to the edge of the pool.  If all else fails call 911, it's too dangerous for an untrained person to attempt a rescue.
Sorry,
George
